The ‘Hundred Days’

  • The first hundred days of his administration when he laid the foundations of the New Deal

  • Roosevelt introduced thirteen new laws

  • The Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) to provide employment for young men

  • The Home Owners Loan Corporation helped over a million people keep their homes by providing additional loans

  • The Farm Credit Administration and the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) to support farmers

  • The National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) set up two organisations: the Public Works Administration (PWA) to organise public work schemes, and the National Recovery Administration (NRA) to improve working conditions

  • Roosevelt also set up the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to build dams to better ensure water supply and make other improvements across a region covering seven states

  • He also made radio broadcasts to the nation to explain what he was doing and so, gain the trust of the American people, his ‘fireside chats’
